Float Contraindications

The act of floating allows your body to effortlessly relax as it’s being naturally supported by the viscosity of the saturated salt water. And the magnesium from the salt that is dissolved in the water (Epsom salt) is absorbed through the skin and can help with muscle relaxation. Thus many positive physical attributes are reported, including:

Floating is done in an environment where sound and light are muted. The water is of the same temperature as your body, so you lose sight of where your body ends and the water begins. You feel weightless. You relax. Endorphins are released. Your brain drifts off, and you can reach a meditative state. Thus many positive mental/spiritual attributes are reported, including:

Reasons not to float:

If you are seeing a doctor and/or are on medication, please check to be sure floating would be appropriate given your situation. Of particular importance, would be if you have a history of heart trouble, epilepsy, seizures or black outs, kidney disease, or diabetes not under medical control. Also, there is usually a wait period needed while undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

Do not float if you have a communicable disease, or contagious skin condition.

Salt solution will sting irritated skin, rashes and open wounds (including recent tattoos). We provide petroleum jelly to coat small cuts, but if you have more extensively involved areas, please postpone your float. We also recommend not shaving for at least 24 hours prior to your float.

Do not float while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. It is dangerous, and we have a zero tolerance policy.

Do not float after a heavy meal. While not dangerous per se, you will be aware of your full stomach and will not have a relaxing float.

Reasons to postpone a float:

You must wait to book a float for a minimum of 5 days after having any type of hair color/treatment. Vibrant color (ex: blue, purple, red, green) will require a longer waiting period. To test whether OK, dry your wet hair with a white towel- if there is no color transferred, then you are OK to float. Note: swim caps will not stop the hair from getting wet, and so will not prevent the hair dye from leaking into the salt solution and staining the sides of the float vessel.

Henna tattoos will run, and are not allowed. Similarly, recently applied makeup or spray/self tanner, if easily washed off, will not be allowed. You would need to postpone your float.

If you are experiencing a heavy menstrual cycle where blood would not be contained through use of a tampon for a minimum of 2 hours, we ask that you reschedule.

If you are experiencing incontinence, or gastrointestinal issues, please reschedule.

Violation of any of these rules or any additional behavior that results in contamination of the float tank or its solution may result in a cleaning and salt replacement fee of up to $1200.
